    Security Licenses & Qualifications

A security guard’s role can vary depending on the type of security required. Different job roles may also involve certain license requirements. It is also common for the requirements for these roles to vary between countries. In the UK and France, security guards have to be qualified to work at a large business or organization. They must also hold a license that is recognized on a national level. In the UK it is called an SIA (Security Industry Authority) certificate. Whereas in Canada, it’s known as OSA (Overseas Security Association) certification.

There may also be other qualifications required by law depending on the country. These could include driver licenses and first aid training courses, that must be taken before applying for this type of job. In addition, a common requirement is that one must be over the age of 18 and speak the local language. However, not all countries have a standard recognized license or certificate required to work.

Titan Security provides security services and security guards throughout Europe. In every country where we work, we make sure our guards hold the required qualifications and training.

For example, in the UK all our security guards hold the SIA license. In France, all our guards have the ‘carte professionnelle’ issued by CNAPS. We ensure that all of our employees receive the necessary training before they are allowed to work on-site. Our training includes topics like customer service, ethics, and diversity awareness.

    Different Requirements Throughout Europe

From above we can see that different countries in Europe have different rules and requirements. We can also see a varying level of required training. Private security agents must complete training before being permitted to work across Europe.

The training might last anywhere from 90 hours to several hundred. Training requirements vary between countries. The longest are found in Hungary (320 to 430 hours), Sweden (301 hours), Spain (180 hours), Latvia (160 hours), and Romania (90-360 hours). Slovakia, France, and the United Kingdom have the smallest training requirements, ranging from 32 to 90 hours.

In some countries, training is provided through state intervention. In others by private training providers that have been certified.

    Security Guard Case Studies

Private Estate Security in Devon UK

We were commissioned to supply a mobile security guard patrol system to deter poaching on a large private estate in Devon. The owner of the property contacted us after several incidents had occurred that had raised security concerns.

After conducting a full risk assessment, we were able to develop a full mobile patrol schedule that covered key risk areas on the property. Our security measures were successful in deterring poachers and reassuring the owners of the Estate

    Brittany Ferries

Working alongside Brittany Ferries out of Plymouth, Titan Security Europe provided uniformed guarding to passengers boarding and disembarking on the ferry service between Roscoff and Plymouth. It was important for this role to provide safety, and also customer service. We ensured the safety of all passengers going on to the boat by using random searches. We also focused on customer service by ensuring ticket checks were conducted in a friendly manner while at the same time directing and assisting passengers. For those passengers coming off, it was the same process in reverse. The contract was during peak trading of summertime. This involved using five security guards with our on-site supervisor working alongside Brittany’s staff.

    Retail Security CCTV Monitoring

A UK clothing brand reached out to us over shoplifting concerns after a number of incidents in one store that had led to a loss of a good deal of stock.

We offered to place our retail security guards on-site, but the client requested something a little less overt as they did not want to take a confrontational approach in the event that it might deter some potential customers.

Eventually, we settled on a CCTV monitoring solution. With the CCTV feed going to our central control room, we could provide instant alerts on a 24/7 basis in addition to referring to footage to gather evidence after a theft had occurred.

We were then able to alert the store manager to suspicious activity and warn if known offenders were present in the store. The store manager would then be aware, and able to pass information to shop floor staff to increase vigilance.

With this, we helped the store to reduce shoplifting and other security concerns.
